A detention system was placed underneath a new parking lot at the University of Washington Bothell to manage stormwater runoff. The university is adding 103 parking spaces for staff and students. Prior to the new construction, the land was a grassy swale.

The University has plans to build another building on site in the next 5-10 years. Because of that, it was important to choose a system that can be easily disassembled and re-purposed as needed.  It will be possible to cut StormTrap joints, take the basin apart, and reassemble it as another stormwater facility on campus if the new site meets the same site design parameters.

The detention system was successfully installed under the new parking lot in less than a week. The stormwater captured in the basin is slowly discharged into a storm filter and then to a wetland. The General Contractor, Victor Bohannon, 3 Kings Environmental, stated, “StormTrap offered a great experience in relation to ordering and installing.”
